在建筑内对面的墙体上设置高度不同的开口(低位和高位),可创造“烟囱效应” , 即温度较高的室内空气上升通过高位开口流向室外,同时温度较低的室外空气则由低位开口进入室内。
由于空气的温差产生热压差即空气浮力,在室内外温差至少为 1.7°C(3°F)时,这种烟囱效应可以在室内空间或通风井产生热压自然通风,从空间或建筑内去除热空气。
风出入口的开口定位应按以下原则设计:
- 住宅空间 – 出入口高度差至少为3米(10英尺)。
- 商业空间 – 出入口高度差至少为4.6米(15英尺)。
出入口开口的高差越大,空气流动越大。 入口高度应设计在低于室内人体上半身的高度, 约在离地面 0.76米至1.37米( 2.5英尺4.5英尺)的高度范围。
